It was like tourist-Stern, and nobody was looking for that. There were a few laughs in it, and a couple of hot chicks, but it mostly sucked, and the main way it sucked is in what it wasn't a movie for hardcore Stern fans. Listen to Quite Frankly's breakdown of it Benjamen points out everything that's a lie in it, which is almost everything. Private Parts was weak as a comedy, and a lame lie of a bio-pic. It definitely didn't deserve and Oscar or anything, like Howard says, but it was good. But again that's not saying the movie wasn't good. And then, in real life, shortly after the movie, his he and his original wife divorce and he takes advantage of his fortune and fame to find a trophy wife who never would have looked at him twice if was a regular schlub like the rest of us. It's ironic that the movie is partially a love story about how Howard stays committed to his wife and family as he becomes successful and enters life as celebrity. (Also movies sets are intoxicating, Howard knows from doing his movie “Private Parts.”) I do talk shit about how Howard brings it up in every interview with an actor in the process of asking if they get boners in love scenes, like he did in his movie, but that's a different thing and doesn't mean the movie isn't good.

So not sure what you're referring to, to say that liking Private Parts is an unpopular opinion. I haven't really heard anyone talking shit about that movie, and I've been in this sub for many years now. Howard hammered away at the idea that people would waste their time seeing a 20 year old movie instead of his brilliant new film, but I knew that there was no way people weren't going to go and watch George Lucas take a steaming dump all over Jabba's Palace. The special edition rereleases we're out at the time and Return is the Jedi was either releasing the same sell or the week after Private Parts. I remember being in high school when the movie came out, and along with being a huge Stern fan, I was a complete Star wars obsessive. It's an easy popcorn movie that has legitimate laughs and moves along at a brisk pace.Įdit.

That said, I love the movie and have watched it a ton and can still watch it basically any time. I think people shit on the movie simply because Howard made the callous calculation that presenting himself as a devoted husband would get himself over with the public despite the fact that, in reality, he was divorcing the woman he made this 2 hour love letter to.
